The Right Tool
A Mish Mash Of Techniques
After experimenting with many different productivity systems I have ended up with the following combination.
Weekly and Monthly Planning(Bullet Journaling)
My favorite feature of bullet journaling is monthly planning. All known tasks are listed at the beginning of each month. Transferring the previous month’s completed tasks to the next. I’ve recently started doing this on a weekly basis too as new items crop up.
Habit Tracker(Atomic Habits)
I have a paper habits tracker that I use to keep track of behaviors I’m building. It generally only contains behaviors that I am having a hard time sustaining or really care about maintaining. Things like brushing teeth are so hard wired by now(hopefully) that they don’t need tracking.
Weekly Review(Getting Things Done)
At the end of each week I’ll review my monthly and weekly lists. Updating completed actions.
Gut Intuition (Getting Things Done)
As life gets ever more complicated it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Tuning into intuition to determine the next right thing to focus on is the ultimate productivity and presence hack.
Two Minute Rule (Getting Things Done)
Gamechanger. If it’s going to take less than two minutes. Do it now. This helps with two things.
Realizing how long things actually take. Most things will take longer than two minutes.
Clearing out the majority of mental clutter the mind sputters reminders about 24/7.
Wrapping Up
Everything is done on paper. Overall it’s the system that you can stick to is the best. Over-complicating things till they become unsustainable is the least productive approach.
