Tech Jargon Explained: Sandbox
Suitable for all ages
Why are Engineers always talking about playing in a Sandbox? Are they little children? They may be young at heart but this is an adult issue.
Let’s explain with another analogy. You’re a sketch artist, and you are trying to come up with a character and you have a high quality piece of paper to use for the final piece. You have other normal paper for rough work. The other paper have most of the qualities of the quality paper. But they’re not what you’ll release to the public. There merely for testing and fine tuning ideas. You may find, that due to the higher quality paper or the higher stakes of writing on the good paper that issues arise that were not apparent on the normal paper.
A sandbox environment is separate to your live environment but operates in largely the same way, without any experiments done there affecting your live audience.
Make any sense?
