Reverse Engineering

Time after time the same story appears. A non-technical founder has a big idea, they come up with a solution and then they start looking for a CTO. They have trouble with this approach, and they don’t seem to understand why. It’s because most Engineers want to be involved in the problem solving process. They may not want to find and validate the problem, or build the business, but they like solving problems.

Engineers are natural solvers. They latch on to problems come at them from fifty different angles. Ordering an Engineer to implement a solution robs their fun. It also stops many elegant solutions from ever seeing the light of day.
