Public vs Private Feedback
Feedback is crucial to new endeavors. There are two types:
Public Feedback such as posting to LinkedIn, Instagram or SubStack is accessible to the whole world. It can be valuable but risky, especially to fragile egos. But it’s potentially higher reward. Because anyone could respond.
Private feedback is talking to trusted, probably gentler audience—a blessing and a curse. It could be friends, family or a private community. They will actually be more likely to respond and offer ideas. But beware false positivity to avoid hurting your feelings.
Preface that you won’t lose your mind and ask pointed questions like:
“What would you change?”
“What was your least favorite thing and why?”
“Who would this appeal to?”
The more specific the better. For an email newsletter you could ask:
“Should it be longer or shorter?”
And listen without judgement.
Speaking of which:
“Should this be longer or shorter?”
