Less is More
If you’re a non-technical founder trying to recruit a CTO you need to know your audience. You probably have a bunch of features and ideas that may all be great for an investor or customer to hear. But every utterance could be months of work—turning just “throwing ideas around” into a stressful and overwhelming conversation for a developer.
Developers are used to being told what to build. But they may have valuable insights on the most efficient solution. If you’re trying to recruit them to co-found your company, telling them exactly what you want built is just treating them like an employee.
How about collaborating to find a valuable problem or jumping on board their idea instead? If your end goal is to be filthy rich anyway then who cares what you build?
The most valuable companies in Silicon Valley were started by Software Engineers. So statistically you have a better chance of success if you integrate their ideas.
