Delivery Or Your Money Back
Investors are a hot commodity. An attitude of scarcity abounds. Many startup founders believe they’ll never get funding. Those that are trying know that they need one thing on their team to stand any chance of success, technical leadership.
Dalton and Michael explain why from decades of experience
Still, non technical founders persist. So they should. But convincing potential matches is difficult.
For investors, even though they know that they should only be backing companies with technical leadership. They’re often only pitched by those without. Since they need to back someone they may be tempted to shotgun at someone without technical skills. They still have lots of leverage here. Their investment will increase tenfold if you strongly suggest that the founder find some paid technical advisement to tide them over while they find a CTO. That technical advisor may even become the full time CTO if the business starts to work.
Otherwise the founder, especially if they’re first time will make all the mistakes people make:
Overpaying for a dev shop to build an over engineered buggy product.
Having difficulty discerning which technical debt to fix and which to keep.
Choosing the first technical founder they find without vetting and ending up in a completely dysfunctional relationship.
Let’s protect everyone’s time and money and make sure this gets done right.
