It’s not easy to determine if your developers are up to par. Especially if you’re non-technical. One easy way to gauge their ability is to ask them to explain how they solved a specific technical problem that had high business value in the past. You don’t need to understand the details to gauge their skill level. If they solved it themselves through first principles and deduction, they’ll be able to concisely and specifically describe how they ended up at their solution.
Bonus points for a tangible business outcome.
