Hair doesn't grow back
A cautionary tale from the barber
I was trying to convince a non-technical founder why she shouldn’t build her entire app off the bat. Scrambling for a metaphor I hit upon a memory.
When my barber first asked me how much hair I want cut off I said:
“An inch”
“You sure bro? If we take a whole inch we can’t go back”, he replies. “How about we start with half an inch?”
“Sure”
Half an inch was just right.
This applies to building an MVP too. If you pare your idea down to the bare minimum perhaps you’ll end up with what you actually need and have saved precious development cycles to iterate.
