Building Blocks
Don't Break The Chain
Habits are the building blocks of dreams. Day to day compounding actions. The actions that help us build trust in ourselves and mark progress.
Atomic Habits is the most valuable book in the space. It contains some of the most valuable life advice out there. Useful in the most unlikely of situations. Here are some hits:
1. Don’t miss twice
Life happens. Things slip through the cracks. But missing a habit twice is a slippery slope. Getting back on the horse immediately however, can stop a miss from becoming a total collapse.
2. Flexibility trumps discipline
Consistency is about being adaptable. Don't have much time? Scale it down. Don't have much energy? Do the easy version. Find different ways to show up depending on the circumstances. Let your habits change shape to meet the demands of the day. Adaptability is the way of consistency.
James Clear
Learning this created spaciousness and self-compassion. A one-minute meditation still counts.
3. Doing daily is easier than doing weekly
It takes much longer to bake in weekly or monthly habits. Taking the decision out of the habit makes it easier—doing daily speeds this process up.
4. Habits don’t have to be painful
The hardest habits to form personally involve rest and relaxation. But self care is key to keeping energy levels up and staying consistent.
Habits are the bedrock of all goals. They teach you not about the joy of achieving outcomes, that may never come. But the satisfaction of progression due to consistent action.
