Augmented New Reality
Vision Pro Changes The Game
AR is the only technology remotely close to AI in leading the market. Like AI, augmented reality has some kinks to work out before it can reach its full potential. The Apple Store is facilitating hour long demos of its Apple Vision Pro currently and its definitely worth it. The most impressive features were the immersive experiences, transporting to some of my favorite places in the world such as:
Yosemite on a crisp snowy day(VR)
A Metallica concert(VR). This was epic. It’s like Apple thought about all the annoying things about attending a concert and made them a non-issue. It felt exhilarating to be up close and personal with James Hetfield and the die-hard fans.
Other highlights:
The Photo Gallery projected and re-imagined.
Notes App
Not being someone with a vast knowledge of XR. The experience was mind blowing. But the flaws quickly became apparent.
Headaches
About half way through I started to feel nauseous and headaches. The associate said that most of the device is front loaded, so it makes sense. It felt heavy on my head and I was relieved when it came off.
Finger Gestures
Although they quickly became intuitive. The finger gestures to move around the took longer to pick up than on a screen. The keyboard is clunky. The long term use will probably involve a real keyboard.
Take Home
Moore’s Law is slowing down a bit, but undoubtedly the hardware will get smaller. Whereas the flaws of AI(hallucination and over-promising) may be fundamental issues with the technology.
Whatever happens, AR is an enthralling space with massive untapped potential.
I’m here for it.
