AI's Fatal Flaw
In a world of ubiquitous AI development there is much talk about the demise of Software Engineering jobs. AI can write code pretty well in isolated pieces. But there have been disastrous consequences of companies using AI to build their entire stack. Nonetheless, AI is here to stay. It’s value is offsetting the problems it’s creating.
What skills are going to matter in a world of AI?
Well, what’s it bad at?
Critical Thinking. Yes, but trillions of dollars are being invested into changing that.
What’s less likely is it will improve at building community, or that it will develop a more human touch that people can’t see through. Talking like people do is a subtle skill. AI is unlikely to learn how to pick up on these subtle societal cues anytime soon. Still, three years ago. Siri or Google Assistant robots were the best we had. Now we have articulate, flexible humanoids to chat too naturally on our phones with credible accents and intonation. Complete with added crutch words to improve authenticity.
That said, it’s hard to believe that humans will bow down to an AI leader anytime soon. But its creators, Altman, Musk and co. are fast becoming the most powerful people on the planet.
